No organisation can operate efficiently unless the employer has in place rules and regulations to regulate the behaviour of employees at the workplace in terms of the company policies and procedures regulating amongst others attendance, leave, discipline, etc.
The code of good practice-dismissal states in paragraph   as follows:
All employers should adopt disciplinary rules that establish the standard of conduct required of their employees.
The Mediation and Dispute Settlement Centre will draft standards of conduct that are clear, concise and in a manner that is easily understood by all.
The purpose of a Disciplinary Code is to bring to the attention of all employees the standards of behaviour expected of them in the workplace, and what action may be taken against employees who are proven, by means of a fair procedure, to have transgressed any part of this Code.
